I was told by someone that my priorities are not right.

I was shocked by this comment.  Hurt by this comment.  I became angry by this comment.

The conversation didn’t go as I wanted it to.

It ended with me being hung up on.

Weeks have passed since I had this conversation and I’m still hurt.

Only time will tell if things will get better.

Until then… I’ll wait.

My department moved into a new office this week.

I got a bigger desk area.

It smells like fresh paint and new carpet.

I’ve lost another 5 pounds.

22 days until vacation.

It is finally Friday.

I won 4 meals to Qdoba today.

I never win anything.

It is hot here in Ohio.

I’m done.

3 Inches?! Seriously?!

I haven’t been the best at giving my weigh-in updates.  And unfortunately the reason behind this lack of updates is because I haven’t been too happy with the results.  I feel like I have been working so hard and only to be let down on weigh in day.

I am currently going to the gym 4 days a week (two-three of those times I’m with my trainer).  I do cardio each time on either the elliptical or the aqua fit class… yet still no results.  My diet seems to be pretty good.  I’m drinking water like I should but still nothing to write home about.  People keep saying they can tell I’ve lost weight but I don’t see it (and the scale doesn’t either, apparently) so I just smile and say thanks!

So the results of the most recent weigh in (July 12th, 2010):

pounds lost: 3

total inches lost: 5 1/2″

This weigh in was after a month of working out.  The crazy thing is that of those 5 1/2″ lost 3″ of it was my shoulders! My dumb shoulders! I didn’t realize that shoulders could be so fat! Why couldn’t those three inches come off of my stomach area?

What to do from here?

I have given up on having a goal of pounds lost.  (Well kind of). Yes, I’m still going to weigh myself but I’m going to try (key word there) to focus more on the amount of cardio I’m doing, the food I’m eating and total inches lost.

I’m taking the month of August off from working out with my trainer to focus on cardio.  I’m sure hoping that during this time I will see some better results.

Fingers crossed.

One Year

You were a precious gift from God above,
so much beauty, grace and love.
You touched our hearts in so many ways,
your smile so bright even on the bad days.
You heard God’s whisper calling you home,
you didn’t want to go and leave us alone.
You loved us so much, you held on tight,
till all the strength was gone and you could no longer fight.
you knew you couldn’t make him wait anymore.
So you gave your hand to God and slowly drifted away,
knowing that with our love we will be together again some day.

I miss you mom.

Thank you for NOTHING… (well almost nothing)

Wow! It has been awhile since I’ve written anything.  I have been really busy at work and just haven’t had much time for anything.  As stated in my last post my vacation was okay.  The trip home was not.

6:30 – wake up

7:00 – leave for airport

7:15 – arrive at airport and check in only to see a message saying “please see someone in customer service as there has been a change in your ticket”

oh great! What could this be.

7:30 – talk to ticket agent to find out that my flight from Chicago to Cincinnati was cancelled! They get me on another flight but it arrives 3 hours later than I was supposed to. I’m frustrated at this point because I just want to get home.  I call the husband to let him know what is going on and he is not happy either.

8:15 – board plane

8:45 – pilot says that all flights travelling in and out of Chicago are grounded and we will not be leaving for another 3 hours!

9 – call husband again and tell him that I don’t know when I’m going to be getting home.

10:15 – everyone re-boards the plane and we are on our way to Chicago.

3:30 – arrive in Chicago, turn on my cell phone to find 3 voice mails from the airline saying my next flight has been cancelled and they now have me on a flight for the next day!

3:35 – look at departure screen and see that there is a flight leaving for Cincinnati in 15 minutes on the other side of the airport. I RUN… and… I don’t make it!

3:50 – get in line for customer service and also call the airline to see if something can be done.

4:30 – moved maybe 5 feet in the line and also get hung up on by the airline after being on hold for 45 minutes!!!

4:45 – call airline back and express my frustrations.  “I’m sorry we hung up on you.  Let me see what we can do to compensate you.  Ok, I can give you $250 towards the purchase of your next ticket (I do not travel that often people!)

6:00 – still in line and still have a way to go.  Hungry and need to go to the bathroom but cannot leave the line because I’m alone

7:50 – finally get to the front of the line only to confirm that I am on the flight for the morning and there is nothing they can do to get me on an earlier flight.  They did give me a piece of paper that had a phone number to call to get a hotel.  I call the number only to find out there are no hotels available (because EVERYONE is delayed with me!)

8:30 – find a place to charge my phone. Go to the bathroom. Get some food.

9:30 – still wandering around the airport, bored

11:30 – trying to find a place that is cool enough for me to relax (I think I had a fever)

1:30am – still awake and walking around

3:30am – so tired but could not find a comfortable place to lay down and didn’t feel comfortable going to sleep

5:00 – McDonald’s opens so I get some breakfast

6:50 – board the plane

9:30 – arrive in Cincinnati

10:30 – eat brunch with the husband

noon – home, showered, and crawling into bed

2:00pm – wake up

8:00pm – back to bed for the night! Gotta go to work in the morning!

16 People… 3 condos

On Saturday I left home, alone, to have a 4 day vacation with my parents, my siblings and their families.  This made a total of 16 people; 8 adults and 8 kids (all of them under the age of 9!).  I left Cincinnati around 8am and arrived in California at approximately 1pm.  My parents picked me up and away we went to the condos.  We had three condos all right next to each other.  My parents and I were in one, my oldest brother and his three kids had one and then my sister, her husband, the triplets, my brother, his wife and their two kids were in another one!  After we all got settled in we ordered pizzas and hung out.  The kids went to bed and all the adults played cards (after the women all went grocery shopping).

Sunday morning we all woke up and since it was Father’s Day all the ladies made crepes and had a bunch of other food!  Around 10:30am we all packed up and walked down to the beach where there is a really good area for looking at crabs and other ocean life during low tide.  We stayed there for a while and then went back to the condos for lunch.  That afternoon we went to the pool.  The condo has a HUGE main pool and most of the kids are in the beginning stages of swimming so they were having a blast. (I actually fell asleep laying out!).  My sister was in charge of dinner for the night and we had burrito burgers (turkey burgers with black beans and rice and guacamole!) and fresh grilled corn on the cob from the farmers market.  We had a great outdoor area where we could all sit out and eat and the kids could run around when finished eating.

Monday was my brother and his wife’s birthday.  The kids really wanted to go to the beach so we travelled over to Laguna Beach.  It was kind of cold at first but as soon as the clouds went away the sun was shining bright and it became the perfect temperature.  The kids loved the ocean (I thought it was FREEZING!) We all ate lunch and built sand cities and then back to the condos we went.  It was my night to cook and since it was my brother and his wife’s birthday they told me their favorite meal was macaroni and cheese and hotdogs! (super easy!)  I had 7 boxes of mac and cheese to make so I got busy cooking.  We ate down at the little picnic area again.  For dessert I bought LARGE cupcakes, perfect for a birthday dessert.  My brother is always a joker so I decided it would be fun to play a joke on him!  I took one of the cupcakes and smashed it in his face!  It was the best birthday present I could give him!

That night the guys ended up going to the movies and all of the ladies stayed with the kids and we had a tea party with the older girls (7 & 5 yrs. old).

Around 6:30am on Tuesday my dad set the smoke alarm off while making bacon! Good morning! haha  I tried to go back to bed but it was kind of hard because of the smell of bacon.  I ended up getting out of bed around 7:30 and went and worked out with my sister.  She is currently training for a triathlon so her trainer gave her workouts each day and I actually did it with her!  After our workouts we went back to the condo, cleaned up, and hung out until around noon when our parents came back from a meeting (the joys of owning a time share).  We all ended up going to Ruby’s for lunch.  The service was so slow! By the time we finished eating it was almost 3pm!  After lunch we went back to the condo and back to the pool we went!  Dinner on Tuesday was my parents responsibility and they made pulled pork and baked beans.  The kids were tired and didn’t want to eat but in order to get the special dessert they had to eat at least a little of it.  After some persuasion everyone ate what they were supposed to.  My parents had planned to take all of us to Balboa Island for the famous Balboa Bars.  These chocolate dipped ice cream bars are DELICIOUS!

triplets eating frozen banana's instead of balboa bars

After the balboa bars it was time to get everyone home and in bed.  I packed up my bag and said goodnight.

Wednesday morning I had to be to the airport around 7.  I will save my travels home for another post…. stay tuned!

Amazing Night!

Last night was one of the best nights I’ve had in a long time.  My sister-in-law received tickets to Phantom of the Opera and her husband couldn’t go so she asked me to go with her! YAY! I was so excited!  I had seen Phantom before but I was probably about 10 and most likely didn’t appreciate it as much as I would now.  Thursday finally arrived and my work day went slow with anticipation building.  4 o’clock rolled around and I was out the door!  I had to drive about 45 minutes north to Dayton to meet up with my Andrea.  Due to lovely traffic it took me about an hour to get there.  I got in my small amount of hugs and smiles from my niece and off we went.

We decided to go to Thai 9 for dinner.  Andrea had heard great things about this place and we both like Thai food.  The restaurant was very nice minus one thing.  The waiter informed us that there is a heat scale of 1-9 with a 4 being medium.  Now, I love spicy food, so to me a 4 shouldn’t be that bad. WRONG! A 4 seemed more like a 8 to me! It was so hot.  After only one bit my eyes started watering, the nose started running, and the sweat started dripping.  I probably ate about 2 pounds servings of rice to help with the heat.  The table next to us asked if we were alright because we couldn’t stop laughing!  If I ever go back I will be asking for a zero and it will probably be hot enough!

After dinner we drove over to the theatre.  Our tickets said we were in row FF.  My thought process said we would be a little more than half way back.  Again, I was wrong!  We were in the second row!!!! And center no less!  I have never sat this close to the front before.  To be able to see the facial expressions and see the detail of the costumes.  The best part was the chandelier.  When it drops onto the stage it came down probably 5 feet above our heads before swinging onto the stage!  It was so cool!

It was an amazing night with an amazing friend who just happens to also be my sister-in-law!  Next season The Lion King will be coming and I hope I can get fabulous tickets for that too!!!
